Dear readers of the calabrian places, tell you of some important ones castles in Calabria built or enlarged by Emperor Frederick II.
The Emperor Frederick II loved the Calabria and its landscape, here he spent a lot of time in his castles together to his court.

for the construction of great castle many artisans and stonecutters arrived from different parts of the kingdome, so a village was formed.
The Castle was built by Emperor in the 1236 in order to control the coast territory and important busy roads that led to Puglia.
IN THESE NATURAL PLACES THE EMPEROR PRACTICE THE FALCONRY.
Remember: it was enlargend during the XVI century, due to attacks from new firearms (artillery), in fact in the first figure above you can see corner towers (bastions).
It is the largest fortress in Calabria.

The castle was founded by Normans in the XI century a.C. on a previous fortress, Emperor Frederick II in the XIII century enlarged it.

NOTE: Frederick II entrusted Cistercians with the costruction of several castles.

To early of XIII century Frederick II passed through Vibo Valentia, seeing abandoned it and with a strategic position he wanted to ripopulate it.
On the site of castle there was already a little norman fortress, which controlled the Mesima valley and important roads passageway.
OTHER CASTLE LINKED TO FREDERIK II
WOW😀, built by Normans (XI century) to protect the coast on a previous Byzantine monastery, then passed to the Templars until the confiscation by Emperor Frederick II.
Perched on the rock called "Petrae Roseti".
